Sergei Golovko

Sergei completed his studies at the Moscow State Conservatory and Russian Academy of Music. He has toured internationally, playing to audiences in England, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Belgium, Germany, China, Colombia and other countries. An internationally acclaimed virtuoso marimba and xylophone soloist, he has been awarded prizes and honorary diplomas at local and international festivals such as the “National Percussion Content”, the International Festival in China (Chengdu) and the “Vienna-Music” and “Radio-France” Festivals in Europe. Sergei's colourful interpretations of famous compositions, combined with his master marimba technique, attracted tremendous public appeal.

Sergei taught at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne (1997-2006), was Artistic Director of the Australian Drummers Show Band (1998-2000), and Musical Director and Conductor for the Australia Day Concerts on Federation Square in 2006 and 2008. He has worked with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, played as a guest-soloist on ABC Radio and Television and for TV Channel 10 Programs, played shows, done recordings for movies and commercial advertisements, and participated in Melbourne International Festivals. He is currently the Director of the Australian Percussion Academy (Melbourne) and the Artistic Director of the Australian Marimba Competition.
